SKATING HISTORY FOR NINA ASQUITH

Profile

I was a member of Medway Roller Dance Club from the age of 3 because Mum and Dad skated.  At twelve I skated in Germany with David Howkins from Folkestone, we came 4th in the couples dance.  I went on to skate with my brother Martin.  Our best results were British Junior Dance 3rd 1979 and 1980 and skating in the Senior British Dance in 1980.  Also skating abroad in Frieburg, Germany.

I loved free skating and was lucky enough to get lead roles in their pantomimes between 1976 and 1981 including Prince Charming in Cinderella, Snow White, Dick Whittington, Dorothy in Wizard of Oz.

I started teaching when I was at Medway, but left skating when I was 21.

I passed my judges test in Figures, Free and Dance and did some judging at club, open and national competitions for the next few years, and also took up Ice Skating at Gillingham Ice Rink while skating I passed my Bronze free, and also prelim dance

In 1986 Mum asked me to come and help at Maidstone Roller Dance Club.  Alongside my Mother from 1986 to 1991 we had a small club, starting with about 6 competitive skaters. Then from approximately 1993 onwards, I carried on by myself and the club was involved in aspects of skating including shows, precision team skating (16 – 24) skaters, free skating and figure skating, solo dance, couples dance, pair skating. The club also enjoyed a varied social side including barn dances, quiz nights, race nights.

During the years at Maidstone, skaters were able to skate at international events including European Championships and international competitions including places on the rostrum and World Championships with Precision Skating.  Win British Championship titles, approximately 360 FARS tests in dance, free and figures, 100’s of FARS Grade Test passes.

I moved to the North West from Kent in July 2003 and started a new club (Bolton Artistic Roller Skating Club affiliated to the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating in July 2004.   I have attended a Federation of Artistic Roller Skating Child Protection Course and have a licence to teach children.  I also have been CRB checked by FARS.

I love teaching artistic roller skating I have two daughters one who has had a great skating career including winning Cup of Europe Solo Dance in 20001, 2002 and 2003, and having been British Champion at different levels and disciplines and at different times until when she finished competitive skating in April 2005 and a two year old who has now started and passed her Grade 1 badge in October 2007.   I enjoy achieving the unexpected, nurturing beginners until they pass their first test or win their first medal and then looking to achieve a championship title and international selection.  It all starts with Grade 1, achievable for most new skaters within the first 3 to 5 weeks.  At both Medway and Maidstone I have taught youngsters who have grown up and have seen them celebrate their 18t, 21st, and engagements, weddings and having their own children who now skate.
